Devora- An Amazing Woman

The story of Devora is found in Judges ch. 4-5.

Mishna Niddah 49b: Anyone who is kosher to testify is kosher to judge. And there are some who are kosher to testify and are not kosher to judge.  Tosaphot: (50a s.v. Kol): What about a woman who can judge as it says for Devora, She judged Israel..... and a woman cannot testify as it says in Tractate Shavuot 30a?! We can answer that with a man, all who judge testify. Or, Devora judged based on prophesy, or she didn't judge she just taught them the laws. The Jerusalemite Talmud invalidates women for judging. One learns it from "and the two men who have a dispute" and one from "two men remained in the camp." Tosaphot Gittin 88b: Or, that they accepted her as a judge because of the Divine Presence which was with her.

There are 7 prophetesses, Sarah, Miriam, Devora, Hannah, Avigail, Chulda and Esther. Meggilah 14a.
