Mysterious Connections Between Esther and Genesis

A. The Links

1. Where is Haman indicated in the Torah?

“Is it from (=Ha-min, in Hebrew, which could be read as Haman)

the tree which G-d told you not to eat you ate?”

Talmud Hullin 139b 

2. Why did Esther merit to rule over 127 provinces? Let the daughter of Sarah who was 127 yrs. Old and rule over 127 provinces. (TT: Sar means ruler) Midrash Rabbah 

3. And he passed before them and he bowed seven times until he approached his brother. (Vayishlach)

And Mordechai would not bend and would not bow. (megillah)

Mordechai did not bow. They said to him, don’t you know you are going to get us killed? He said, I am a Jew. They said, but we find that our forefathers bowed.. He said, Benjamin my forefather  was in his mother’s womb, and he didn’t bow.. (Agadat Esther III) 

4. Where does the story of Mordechai and Joseph take place?  

5. And he remained alone to his mother and his father loved him. (Vayigash)

And with the death of her mother and father, Mordechai took her as a daughter. 

6. Yafked Pharaoh vehimesh et eretz mitzraim,  Let Pharaoh appoint and divide the land of Egypt….

Vayafked hamelech pekidim, Let the King appoint agents in all the countries in his kingdom, and they should gather (veyikbetu) all the beautiful young maidens… 

7. For how can I go to my Father  and the boy is not with me, for how can I see the bad which will befall him?

For how can I see the bad which will befall my people? 

8. Kaasher shacholti shacholti, May G-d give you mercy before the man and send the other brother and I, as I lose a son, so may I lose him…

9. They placed him by himself and them by themselves, and for the Egyptians who were eating with him by themselves…

Let The King and Haman come to the feast which Esther has made… 

9a. They put on him htegarments of fine linen and placed a gold chain on his kneck..They had him ride on the second chariot, and they called before him, “avrech” …

They dressed Mordechai, and they paraded him in the streets  and called before him, “so shall be done to the one the king wishes to  honor… and he went out with garments of rolyalty… linen…

11.  And it was as she spoke to him day by day, Yom yom, and he did not listen to her to sleep with her.

And it was that they would speak to him day by day and he did not listen to them… 

12. I am Joseph your brother

For how can I see the destruction of my people? 

13. And they hung the officer of drink.

And they hung  Haman on the tree which they had prepared for Mordechai.  

14. And forty days passed for so were the days of  embalming....

After 12 months, for so were the days of  pickling

2.      Binyamin is the only tribe not to bow to Esav
